Adrian Paul Smith is an associate attorney with Doran and Cawthorne, LLC. He was born on the bayou in Bourg, Louisiana where he grew up in a French-speaking household. He received both his undergraduate and a law degree from Louisiana State University. His French fluency prompted him to study abroad and intern in France during law school, giving him a fuller understanding of Louisiana’s civil law origins.
He became licensed to practice law in Louisiana in May 2018. He began his profession as a self-established solo practitioner where he helped individuals, often of limited means, with a wide range of legal issues ranging from family law to criminal matters. This showed him how gratifying it can be to help those who cannot help themselves. Deviating from this path, he then spent several years practicing insurance defense, protecting the rights of large corporations engaged in litigation, where he attended numerous court hearings and was the lead attorney on several trials. This experience provides him with a perspective on how insurance companies settle claims and handle litigation. He comes to this firm seeking to help individuals afflicted by tragedy as he first did as a solo practitioner, now armed with the experience of someone who knows the defense tactics of insurance companies.
Despite having defended large companies in multi-million-dollar litigations, his most satisfying moment as a lawyer was when he was able to win thirty-thousand dollars for a woman who was wrongfully denied life insurance from her late father’s policy.
When he is not in the office or the courtroom, Adrian enjoys cycling and spending time with his wife.
